Student Blogging Challenge: Week Four

The first three weeks of the Student Blogging Challenge have been exciting, and for many of us, including myself, a little bit tricky at times! This week is all about catching up, which means by the end of this week, everyone's blogs should have the first three weeks of this challenge completed, posted, and submitted on the google forms.

Feel free to choose from other tasks on this summary once you have caught up on all previous tasks! Click here for the link to the Kahoot, and click here for the google form to fill in if you write the free choice tasks. For any Week 1-3 tasks, go back and find that google form!

Get NZ Writing

Today, Room 6 finished the Get NZ Writing Poetry kit. Over the last week we have constructed a class poem, collaboratively written a colour poem on the colour blue and each wrote an anagram postcard about a mystery item. All of these goodies have been bundled up into a courier bag and are heading to our partner classroom in Hamilton next week. It will be incredibly exciting to see what is in the parcel they send us! Tino pai Room 6 for a great job this week - the whole class photo shows how exhausted we felt after today's big effort! Just a snippet of this work is included below.

Lab in a Box

On Wednesday afternoon, Room 6 was lucky enough to spend some time learning about Physiology with four experts from Lab in a Box! Students measured their resting and active heart rates, took their pulse and learnt about the pH of a range of solutions. We were surprised to learn that lemon juice, vinegar and coke had the same pH level!

Week Three Student Blogging Challenge

This weeks topic is 'Fun with Photos!' Images can make blog posts far more interesting, but where is the best place to get images from? If we copy them from Google we need to know all about copyright, otherwise we can get into trouble if we do not have the author's permission.

The tasks this week use three alternatives to Google for finding images to publish online. Read the instruction page here, and refer to the task picture below.

Don't forget to submit the URL of your blog post to this google form so that others can see it!

The Student Blogging Challenge Begins!

The student blogging challenge is a very exciting annual event, which over 800 students in 115 classes from 25 countries have signed up to participate in this year. Room 6 at Oamaru Intermediate is one of those classes!

Each week I will post the link to the weekly blogging challenge which has all of the instructions along with some helpful tips.

There are four steps you must complete each week:

Don't forget, once you have published the task on your blog, you must enter the URL of that post on the weekly google form - I will include this link on my weekly post. This allows other people to see your posts and give you feedback!

When you are completing the last step, commenting, consider these things:

Later this week we will all complete the Week One challenge: "Lets Get to Know Each Other." I hope you're all as excited as I am!

100 Word Challenge: Week Six

The prompt this week is:

... but how could she just disappear ...

You can choose to include this statement somewhere in your writing (as your title or as a line of your text), or just use it to inspire your 100 word or less blog post. Happy blogging!

OIS Swimming Sports

The 2019 OIS Swimming Sports were held on Friday the 1st of March and Room 6 did an amazing job! I was so proud of not only the fantastic results many individuals in our class had but also the supportive attitudes that were displayed from all. Each and every swimmer earnt their house valuable house points for the year by getting involved and should feel incredibly proud of themselves. A big congratulations to Rata house for taking the overall win!
